Khalid Al-Banna

(b. 1975) Born in Sharjah in 1975, Khalid Al-Banna studied Architecture at the Emirates University which he represented on several occasions abroad. He has participated in many art exhibitions and has taken part in numerous art courses since 1996 concentrating on pencil work, oil painting and sculpture. He began his apprenticeship in 2002 under the tutelage of the artist Yasir Al Duwaik who inspired him to delve into the practice of etching and taught him the principles and techniques of the art form. He had solo exhibitions at Emirates Fine Arts Society and the Higher Colleges of Technology, he has featured in numerous group exhibitions, including ‘Emirati Expressions I’ (2009), the 7th Sharjah Biennial (2005) and in ‘Portrait of a Nation (2016), one of the largest exhibitions of UAE contemporary art to date at the Abu Dhabi Festival. His work can be found in the collections of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture & Knowledge Development, the Culture Department of Sharjah and the UAE embassies in the USA and Montenegro. Al-Banna currently lives and works in the UAE.
