Chant Avedissian

(b. 1951) Born in Cairo in 1951, Avedissian is the son of Armenian refugees. He studied fine art at the Montreal’s School of Art and Design and then at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris before returning to his native Egypt. Avedissian was awarded his first solo exhibition in 1970 at Alexandria’s Kodimas Hall. From then on he exhibited across the world including major shows at The British Council in Cairo and at the University of London. Avedissian’s artwork is held by the National Museum of African Art; the Smithsonian Institute; the British Museum; the Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam; the National Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh and the National Gallery of Jordan.
